Any source for this steering column part?

Post by redstone65 »

There was a steel strap/clamp sort of thing that was around the steering column thru-firewall bracket on the engine side. From the exploded diagrams it seems to share a part number with the bracket plate itself. Is there a source for the strap/clamp anywhere? Alternatives? Mine was completely rust frozen at the bolt and I had to cut it. I don't think a hose clamp would be quite sufficient. ;)

Here are a couple of pics with arrows to the part I'm talking about:

You can install a normal bolt and nut once the old nut is ground off.

Grinding the bolt head off would have been the absolute right thing to do. But, I'm an idiot:

I tend to take the do-first, think-later approach. :pout:

Something like this will probably work. It's part of the whole cold air intake product line. I don't remember if it should be 3" or 4" but this is a google search for 4". https://www.google.com/search?q=4%22+ba ... rc=_&vet=1 Probably get one at your local parts store over in the custom/modified section where they keep the cold air intake parts.

Being as this thread goes back almost a month, I'm guessing you have come up with a solution??

But just in case, a SS Band Clamp would probably work, and shouldn't rust on you either:)

That’s a good looking clamp. I actually settled on an exhaust u-bolt style clamp. But that SS one looks better. Thanks for the suggestion.
