1970 to 1976 body swap

Post by zmonster72 »

Got a question about body swaps. I have a 1970 2wd long bed that is pretty clean, and i want to use it as a truck when its done. But i found a 1976 2wd long bed chassis that comes with the suspension, front disc brakes, rear axle and rear gas tank for a steal. I'm pretty handy and have most basic hand tools, but this would be my first project. So the question is, do I attempt a body swap or just fix what i have have? I don't want to get in over my head. Thanks in advance

I'd say just do the front end swap so you have disc brakes.

The 76 is just the chassis, not the whole truck. Btw that article was exactly what I needed, thank you!

if the price was right I would also just strip the 76 frame and use parts on your 70. different frame widths in the rear, its doable but not a real advantage unless you were going 2wd to 4wd or your current frame had enough damage or rust not to be safe on the road.

all the front end parts can be swapped over, can make the rear tank work if your looking for that. rear axle spring perches may be different, but if they are both 9" and that one has favorable gearing or posi, you could always just swap the gears from housing to housing...
