Ford keyless entry

Anyone fitted the keyless entry pads from the late model vehicles on anything. I always liked them and using digits on the door to open a grand marquis we had. I wonder if it is a self contained unit and all parts could be scavenged in the junkyard or if the cpu of the car is involved?
