67 bendix box vs. 70-79 bendix box

Post by Ohgoose »

I have a 67 that I am doing a resto mod build. It has the original bendix box that needs to be rebuilt and was going to go with a redhead box (a bit pricey but willing if needed or could go full swap and go with a Saginaw). I called redhead and they suggested a cheaper and better route would be to go with a 70-79 bendix box model 2751. They said it was the next gen box and a lot of the leaking issues were engineered out of that generation. So the question is has anyone done this swap and if so what if anything is needed (brackets, pitman arm, is the mounting bolt pattern the same and so on) or what can I use from the original set up. I am putting in an ididit or flaming river steering shaft so i can adapt what needs to be addressed from a steering linkage perspective. Also planning on a 408 engine with long tube headers so will there be any clearance issues? I looked in the forums and didn’t see anything about this kind of swap and looking for advice since I have never done anything like this before, so any help would be great.

Red-Head offers a porting option for those that are either already running a hydraulic assist steering, or plan to in the future. If you choose to make this upgrade to the box (from the drop down menu), your gear box will come with two pre-drilled and tapped ports with plugs. For clarification, hydraulic assist is NOT something your vehicle would have come from the factory with, rather it is an upgrade that adds a hydraulic ram to the steering linkage to aid in steering. Most vehicles do NOT have this option, thus if you are unsure if you have it, you probably do not.

do not understand that statement they have on the box AND never heard of 70/79 Bendix boxes some call it a Saginaw box, I call it a Ford Box since it says Ford on the box with Ford Casting #'s have not seen Saginaw on the box,, I do know several here has used there boxes so cannot how they holdup but looks like they do a good job,, BUT also Cardone with several locations in USA does boxes but have no feedback on that
