rear tire size

Post by Zorm »

Thinking of getting my stock 8 lug steel wheels banded, like maybe 2" out back. What is the widest tire we can put on our trucks with the stock F250 rear end, to fill the rear wheel well? I'm thinking 2", increasing the back spacing.

thanks for input

Depends on what you mean by filling up the wheel wells. If you are just looking at height you can run some factory ford 16x7 accurides with some 285 or 265 75 16's and that would probably suffice. If you are looking for the camper special look I think widening the rims to 10" wide and running a 305 70 16 would give the same look as running the old 16.5x9.75 camper special wheels with 33x12.50/16.5's that a lot of guys run.

I'm also a fan of a fuller wheel well. I run 265/75-15's on 8" Dodge truck wheels from the 80s-90s. I have about 1" to 1-1/2" clearance from the outside of the wheel well, more on the inside and more in the rear due to the narrower rear center.

Thanks for that, I plan on keeping the stock hub caps the ones with the "crown" in the middle. Funny, when I was driving this truck back in highschool, 80's I hated those things and bought white wagon wheels. Now older, I love the stock look.
