I'm Baaack,
After a couple years without my beloved 1970 Bump, I am looking at starting a new project. I'm planning to buy a salvage late-model super duty and then mount a 70's body on it. I thought this was an original idea until I started researching it and saw several others with completed projects. First, does anyone know how to contact someone who has done this conversion before? Second, can anyone give me the breakdown of when Ford started the supercab and crewcab styles? The standard cab was the only thing I could not stand about my bump. I need more space. Also, I thought that the significant grill change happened in '78, but I keep seeing ads for pickups as early as 1975 that have the same grill. I prefer the earlier ones. Last question. Does anyone know where I can find a solid body? It only needs to run until I can find the donor rollover, so I can tow it home.
Thanks all. Its great to be back.

Re: F250 Cab Styles
As far as the grille change, that would have been for the '78 model year. Until mid '78 round headlights were the only legal lights that could be used. In mid '78 the law was changed and the rectangle lights were used in mid/late '78 and the '79 model year, using the same grille. The body lines were the same as the 77, so the grilles were interchangeable back to '74 or so. (if memory serves)
There are advertisements for 4 door bumps that look like they might be in the late 60's.
Sorry I couldn't be more help and good luck with your search.

Re: F250 Cab Styles
For the '78 trucks, round headlights indicated a base model truck and the rectangle lights were used on the Ranger trim level. These were built side by side from jul/aug '77 til jul '78. For '79, all trim levels got the rectangle lights.
