Rear end.
Looking for a rearend for my 71 ford lwb with a 300 6 cyl . i am located in central Texas. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

All show bump side rear ends available, even whole trucks. Any of our 2we trucks would have the same rear end. Might luck out and stumble on a Trac Loc!

Thanks for the help. Not to close to any of those places. Located in Gatesville. Might have to take a drive though. Do you know if i can make one work out of a 88 or a 75 ford pickup. They have one each of those over at Belton at the budget pick and pull.

Your issue is going to be spring location. The '75 is a better fit but you will have to relocate your spring perches. The '75 has a wider track. http://www.fordification.com/tech/chass ... arison.htm

Do you have a rear axle to work with now? If you have a damaged one it may be easier to replace the 3rd member or whatever is bad from a similar rig. I think that you could use parts out of the 75 in your housing, but not positive, hopefully someone will correct me if I am incorrect.

I believe the axles in the '75 are 31 spline and ours are 28 spline. Can't swap 3rd members without some additional rework. Not major or expensive, just requires some labor and know-how. Curious to know what wrong with your original, Michael?

I'm guessing this is an F100 with a 9-inch rear?
A rear end out of an '88 F150 would be an 8.8" rear end. They were first put in the F100/F150s in 1983 while the 9-inch rear ends were also being installed in the trucks through 1986. I do not know what the spring perch spacing is on an '87 - up model 8.8" rear end.
Most '73-'79 9-inch rear ends had 31-spline axles/differentials but, some did have 28-spline. All '67-'72 Bumpside 9-inch rear ends had 28-spline axles/differentials.
The 31-spline axles out of a '68-'72 Ford 9-3/8" rear end will fit in a '68-'72 Ford F100 9-inch rear end housing. If it's a matter of needing to change out the 3rd member and you had a Dentside 9-inch 3rd member with a 31-spline differential, you could use the '68-'72 F100 31-spline 9-3/8" axles in the 9-inch housing to make it work. --this is what I have in my '69 F100 2WD: 31-spline axles from a '71 F100 9-3/8" rear end in the stock '69 F100 9-inch rear end housing, with a factory N-case 9-inch 3rd member with a 31-spline Traction-Lok differential from a '75 F150 4x4.

Is it not possible to swap the side gears (spider gears)? Unless those are bad. Do 9 3/8" axle shafts not fit in a 9" housing or is it just that denside rear shafts are longer?

I have a '75 F150 9-inch 3rd member with a 31-spline Traction-Lok differential, along with '71 F100 9-3/8" 31-spline axles in my truck's stock '69 F100 9-inch rear end housing.

When i got this truck i had to replace the axle's because one of the bearings had ate into it. It also had spun in the axle housing. I replaced both axle's and was hoping to get some more life out of the rear end. But there was pieces out the ring gear. So i just drove it and was hoping i could find a parts truck ..But thats where i am at. Now i need a rear end. Thanks for all the suggestions. I think i am going to go get the rear end out of the 75 ford at the junk yard and put new perchs in it.

You can use the existing spring perches on the '75 rear end. Thank you. That sounds like what i will do. I did not know you had to move the shock mount. Thanks for the info. But now that i think about it. It makes sense.

On 65-72 trucks with Twin I Beam I would use any rear end from 73-96 F100's/150 trucks and move perches,, My 65 has a 96 F-150 spicer rear and been in there for years,, just on some later rears the center of the axle where the wheel goes is just a smidge bigger and had to take a little off the center of axle or inside of the wheels,,
Now for the reason of later trucks is follow a 65-72 truck and you will see it dog tracks one way or the other to make it handle not so good, well after you put the later rear end assembly in you will find the truck handle 100% better especially in the corners and if doing a 4 wheel alignment will find the truck will come out better,, here at our shop had a hwy patrol officer came in with his 66 truck and wanted me to drive his , first corner I told him I did not like his truck and nether did he,, took my truck out went into the same turn about 20mph faster and he was stunned,, difference was rear end assembly,,
Another instance few years back with my 65 At Slick stock, Kid took us at Iowa Speedway and my 65 stayed in the corners close enough with a truck with a Nascar Chassis under her.. Here is the answer,, get rid of that stock assembly and go newer
