Shipping a truck bed.

Post by jets4343 »

Has anyone here ever shipped a bed across country, coast to coast? If so what shipping company did you use? Any suggestions? Thanks!!

It's almost cheaper to ship a whole truck. If it will roll, lots of carriers can winch it on a car hauler. If it were me, I'd find a GOOD bed attached to a parts truck that had 4 tires and air in them!

Easier to roll it on for a freight company. Then have to pack / load / unload big cargo.

Or cut the truck in half and make a trailer,
I got a nice box that somebody made into a trailer and moved up north. :hmm:

I had a 68 cab shipped from Arizona to Pennsylvania and I paid more for shipping than what I paid for the cab. Also, if your shipping it to a residential address it will cost more so if you or someone you now has a business address have it delivered there. Mine cab came FedEx freight as they were the cheapest and delivered it to my business address but it was still big hit on the wallet.

Here's an odd suggestion: ask the seller if he'll weld four trailer tongue jacks under it. It's the cheapest and quickest way I can think of to make it mobile.
When I relocated from MA to VA four years ago, I broke down my lift and bolted it back onto the shipping fixtures that I saved. I welded four trailer tong jacks to it and could push it around. Intercity moved it along with my cars but only because it was easily loadable.

Alternatively, you could ask the seller to build a wooden frame under it and attach castors to the frame.

I am assuming the scenario is you are purchasing the bed from someone and you currently don't have access to it yourself. If so, it's going to take some effort by the seller.

Perhaps you could say where the bed is and a member on here might be local to them and be willing to help?

Thanks for all the input. The bed is in Arizona and I need it shipped to VA. The seller and I are working on some details. He is willing to help out but isn't going to kill himself. I totally understand his side. Thanks again!!!

I've used uship.com to move vehicles before. It's a bunch of independent trucking companies. You can put your shipment up there and have companies outbid each other. You can see reviews based on their past customers. Great process to work with. They give you a code and you only give the driver the code after delivery.

Thanks guys, but the deal fell through. He no longer wants to sale just the bed, he wants to sale the whole truck. Its a clean truck, but no title or interior or hood. So the search continues for a good bed floor.

OK Tom, do you have a good short bed? I'm free this weekend if you do. I could come down and look. I'd take a good long bed, for the right price, seeing as how I would have to cut it up to fix my short bed. Let me know. Thanks!
