Auctions are driving prices up.
All these big car auctions are in some ways doing a disservice. When people over bid the actual value of a car or truck. everyone that has one thinks they have a goldmine. Just because a 67KR mustang that's in pristine shape goes for the bucks doesn't mean your 67 six cylinder Minnesota rusted and modified is worth the same. They are just driving the price out of our range. I see this happening to our trucks.

All the old, aging baby boomers are wanting the old cars of their yooth. That is my theory of why the prices are so high on the old 50's, 60's, and 70's cars.
If you haven't gotten yours by now you'll have to pay a hefty price for a decent one.

The mid fifties thru the early seventies were unquestionably a golden age of domestic vehicles. For Gen X, these were the first used cars we could save up enough money to afford to buy.

Not to forget the "Gas Monkey Dudes" they sell old rusty rides for "BIG BUCKS" unless that's all Hollywood BS on the prices. Who knows but them. Of course they call it patina???? There is a difference from a rusty old hulk and one with true patina on the outside...... Did you see the Wheeler-Dealers when they flipped the 48 Ford F-1 they just clear coated the patina and got big bucks..... why can't we do that. i GUESS WE NEED TO HAVE A TV SHOW...

My wife sees me watching those shows and then says I should flip cars. "It's easy".
I never buy a vehicle without checking it out as thoroughly as possible. Gas Monkees buy something, not knowing if it even runs, and then get upset if the engine is no good.
I can only take so much of those shows, some I can't watch at all.
I do like Jay Leno's garage. My elderly neighbor thinks I'm funny. Maybe I should become a rich comedian and get a garage like Jay's.
What's worse is she watching the same kind of stuff on HGTV and thinks when we retire, we should flip houses. Hey, they don't call it "retirement" for nothing!
