She's Alive!!!! But may need some local help

Post by Zorm »

After almost 2.5 years, she roared to life this morning!!! This past summer I finally got back to working on this ole girl (71 F250 camper special with 390) Cleaned out the cowel of the leaves and crap, then thought maybe try and turn her over. Disconnected the coil and the fuel line, turned the key and wrr, wrr CLUNK! I thought aw crap. So I took off the carb and found the butterflies rusted solid. Looked down into the intake and saw some surface rust.

So go to start and rebuild the carb and stuff starts braking. So got a carb from a member on here and rebuild it. Before I tried to start Ole Blu, I took out all the plugs and cleaned them, they still looked good from when I replace them about 4 years ago except for one, it was a little rusty? :(
So I pour some Marvel Mystery oil in all the cylinders.
Turn the engine by hand, was a bit hard in one sopt or two, then turned ok. Grab my new Optima battery that I just picked up for 145.00, yep :woohoo: and turn the key, wrr, wr, wrr bump!..hum :? Take out the starter and do my redneck e=starter check, jumper cables, and nope, nada, nothing.

So after new starter, turn the key and wrr, wrr, hummmmmmmmmmm, MMO comes squirting of all cylinders..yes :) So, finish up on the carb rebuild, slap it on, put some gas in the bowel, close her up. Run some extra fuel line from the new (4 years ago) pump to a gas can. Reconnect the coil wire, connect batt, manually move the throttle linkage, dump a little gas into the carb. Turn the key and on the 2nd wrr, she starts!!!! :hd: Little rough at first, small knock then goes away, running, see the temp fuel line shacking away, so that's working.
Give her some gas and she backfires through the carb and dies. Did not connect vac line from carb to dizzy.

So go again, 2nd wrr she fires off again, MMO burning off the exhaust manifolds, so I thought, well some of the smoke is that, the rest of it is the dry leaves catching on fire from the exhaust!!! forgot about that crap, so after clearing the debris, and putting the fires out , she is running. Still a little rough.

So if anyone is near or in Pensacola, Fl. and knows the Motorcraft 2150 well to adjust it, could use some good old help there. thanks

she runs :D :D :D :D :D , Dad would be proud, its was his truck, in the family for 42 years.

no on to getting her like she was
