I think there is a market out there,in the two plus years of driving mine i've been approached by MANY people asking questions about my swap and close to half of them are interested in a diesel conversion of some type.A "plug and play" diesel swap would appeal to many of those people.

I don't know, a first gen with a Dodge tranny is about the simplest plug and play install you can get. Regardless of the source for the power, the end user will still need to fab the mounts and fuel system as well as wire it up. A first gen is about the simplest to do that with.

I just don't see a huge market for them at a cost point most guys will seriously consider buying one at.

I would be curious to see what they offer. I doubt it will change things much; ever seen the cost of a new diesel? Not many people will be willing to choose a diesel package that cost 10 to 15 to possibly 20k over a coyote or even cheaper LS package. I sure wish they could get that new 5.0 cummins and tranny in a package in the 8 to 12K range. I think engine, tranny, and computer in the 15k range would be a knockout. That would sell like hot cakes IMO.

My Dad ordered a brand new 1957 way back then. He owned a '49 Mercury, 239 flathead, 3 speed transmission he traded on it. His new '57 came with a 223 six and 2 speed Borg Warner automatic and I think 3:89 rears. The truck was a dog but it was what we had at that time for the farm. Later when Dad looked more closely at the engine options for his '57 he found a diesel engine option, a Perkins diesel engine. It was a British engine and as Ford was already huge in the agricultural tractors in the UK, this engine was available in North American production trucks. Wow, can you all imagine how much smoke that thing would have produced? But I do like the idea of Cummins coming along with new power options for our trucks.

Perkins 4's were available in the Massey Ferguson's and they run pretty good.

A buddy of mine recently purchased a Dent Crewcab F-350 from the central valley of CA. that has a older diesel conversion with a Perkins turbo 6 and the np 435 and a 3 spreed brownie it's a nicely done swap it's now his daily driver untill we can replace it with a Cummins from his Bronco.
the Perkins 6 is a smooth and quiet engine but a bit under powered.
