numbers matching??

Post by farmall1 »

Hi friends. I think I am going to have my bottom end freshened up in my 70 F100. I have (2) 390 engines. My truck is a factory 390. It there any way that I can tell if one of these engines is the one that came in my truck?

From my research the only way to come close is by date coding. Find the date of build for you truck and then find the date code on the engine block if the code is within a month or so before the build date there is a chance it is the original block. At least you could rule out a block if it was manufactured after you truck. If you wanted to know when your truck was built try a MARTI report. If anyone else knows different please post.

Thanks. I assume I can find info regarding location of casting numbers and decoding on this site. I'll look around.
