Horn

Post by Mancar1 »

I got tired of being short on time to get the horn working on my 68 with the 72 column and 68 wheel. So I reverted back to my teens, and that was many many moons ago, and did this. Works just fine.

Had the same horn on my truck when I first got her. Mounted under the dash beneath the ignition switch. It was wired constant hot. Forever bumping it with my knee getting in and out.

I'll never understand why people put auxiliary horn buttons on their vehicles. The horn and steering wheel buttons are just about the simplest electrical circuits there are on cars. They are easy to fix people!!!! :x

Maybe, but the hidden details and the changes between the years will stump the best unless you know the secrets. The little ground strap on the rag joint that is not on all years, the dual brushes in the early ones.

The same reason I find household wire nuts in automobiles.... laziness and/or poor workmanship.

how about like laying in the mud in the middle of nowhere kansas pulled over by a cop trying to get your trailer lights working at 2 am?

then maybe just not bothering to go back and fix it ever because those household wire nuts do a pretty darn good job.

Its a truck not the space shuttle, dude would rather do 20 minutes of work and go back to honking his horn rather than spending his whole weekend with a disassembled steering column. I can dig that. Its not like he drilled a hole in a 1929 bently to install a wal-mart oil pressure gauge or something.

I never got mine to work, lost the ground from the wheel to the chassis and never bothered to wire the little ground doodad around the rag joint.

Knew I was going to be rebuilding my whole truck anyway in the future, with a different wheel, so didn't see the sense of it. Besides, in the 11 years I've had her I may have actually honked 3 times.
