My "new" toy!!

Post by Calfdemon »

Hey all... Ive been away for a while but still alive and kicking. I just picked up a 1931 Ford Vicky hotrod after checking it out while I was on vacation in Oregon. Anyway, I have already paid for it and now just need to get it shipped down to SoCal from Oregon. Its about a 1000 mile trip. Anyone have any recommendations for a vehicle shipping company they have used? I prefer to have it shipped in an enclosed trailer if possible, but I will take any recommendations, especially if it is a service that you have used and you had a good experience with it.

Thanks in advance!!

Re: Vehicle transport service recommendations?

I think I have decided on going with a shipping broker as they have a larger pool to choose from and can probably get it shipped to me quicker. Anyone every used "Ship A Car Direct"? From all of the reviews I have found online, they are pretty favorable and are at least 4 if not 5 stars on all of the sites I have been on.

I have not, but I look forward to a pic of your new wheels.

My "new" toy!!

Post by Calfdemon »

Ask and thou shall receive :D

It wont be in my driveway until near the end of the month, but these were the pictures I took when I went and checked it out. Needs a little cosmetic work and I have a few modifications already in mind, but otherwise, it is solid as can be. The frame was stretched and boxed very well with some great looking welds. There is not a spot of rust on the car anywhere, and the drivetrain is top notch. It has a 1954 Dodge Hemi red ram motor in it with about 20k miles on it. Runs strong and not a leak to be found. If it had a Chevy motor in it, I would have passed or dropped a Ford motor in it. But an early Hemi is acceptable and will remain. The transmission is from an mid-90's Ford F150 and 4th gear is overdrive. So it can cruise at 80 all day long and get great gas mileage. Adding one more spring to the rear end to raise it about 1 more inch in the back so the stance will look a little better.

Very cool!!! I have seen that the current trend is "rat rod" where they keep the chassis 4" off the ground... If you can live with having it down low I maybe would not raise it...

Im not really raising it much. I am just going to add 1 inch to the rear to give it a little more rake and give it a meaner stance. It will still be plenty low enough.

I could have and the car would have made it just fine. When the guy I bought it from built it, he drove it 6000 miles from Oregon to NY and back... The car could do the trip again. But I drove up there with a new car for my daughter and had to drive her old car back home as I had already sold it down here. So unfortunately, I couldn't drive it home or I would have. :D

Thats okay, I will drive it plenty once I get it at my house.

Mr Demon, congratulations , that looks like it could be "The Demon". :D

Not many like that around and the motor make it even cooler. :woohoo:

I agree with you if it had a Chevy engine you would have to change it.

Awesome ride, love the early Hemi's! I like the suicide front end with drilled axle, generator and vintage intake! It's nice how it was built with a limited amount of newer made bolt on parts. Have fun with your new toy!
