G'day! Click Click when accelerate.

Post by Chico »

:? Hello. Hoping for a little help.
1971 f-250 with a 428 FE and Dana 60 and C6

When accelerating from a dead stop I get a click click sound also when shifting to reverse I get a single matching click sound. This has just started. All shifts fine and otherwise perfect. If I accelerate very slowly I get no noise.
Mounts? Transmission? Drive?
Thanks.

Ditto, park it somewhere it won't roll over you and knock it out of gear, then rock the driveshaft looking for movement.

Agreed start with u-joints. I have had rear ends internally make that noise and the noise resenated up the driveline so if u-joints get ruled out go to the rear end.

Hello again.
Did have some play in the middle joint. Replacing tomorrow. Then will see if noise goes.

U joints done and drive shaft is true and straight.
Alas it's still doing the click click. Thought it was gone but came back to haunt me. Albeit a bit less. Transmission mount all good too.
Any other ideas?

I Would check the rear-end, bay be something loose in there. I've chased some weird noises before coming from the rear-end.

Had a Dodge truck that did the same thing. Had me going on that one. Turned out to be loose transmission mount. Tightened bolts and problem cured.
