Can I change body parts from 67-72 to a 1974

Post by Johnny-be-cool »

I have a 1974 F250 4x4. I love the front end look of the 1970. Can I put on the 70 Hood, grille and headlights on the 1974?

You can do anything you want when it comes to a vehicle. All it takes is money. Simple bolt on? No. A bunch of fab work (a bunch of money) and there you have it.

The easiest way I can think of having never done it would be to swap on the entire front sheet metal from the bump. Inner fenders, core support, hood hinges. You will have to modify these parts. Now it's time to mount the dent fenders. More modification to get them mounted and properly aligned.

You may need to cut the very front of bump and dent fenders and put the bump part on the dent fender since the grille bolts to the fenders. You will need a bump gravel guard. You are on the downhill slide now.

The grille bolted in it's just a matter of the hood.

About the only thing I've heard of is swapping the hood along with the inner fenders and radiator support. I'm running a dent radiator support and it fit with a little massaging.

Perhaps the dash metal would swap out as the big trucks had bump dashes with dent doors / fenders.

Darn..................... I really like that 70 front look. Looks like I'll have to swap cabs to get what I want.

And beds. Plus the frame on the dent is 2" longer so you'll have to figure that out (shorten frame, offset bed).

Or just buy a bump and drop the dent driveline in it.

So, are you saying that the bed will over hang by 2" or the mounting locations are all different

Also, will I be able to take a dent cab and put it on my 74 highboy? Or is that a problem as well.

Bumps are '67 -'72, dents are '73 - '79. Reference the side of the door.

The dent frame and wheel base is 2" longer to allow for the wider door opening on the later trucks.
