thanks though. I'm thinking I'll buy that column. then I can swap the whole thing except the steering wheel.

in the end I found a proper OEM shaft on ebay that was a 4spd power steering shaft. that way I can leave the original setup untouched in my storage in case of problems I can return to it.

Well, almost there with the power steering set up. I'm just awaiting a saginaw pump, as the C2 pump sounds iffy. I was told it can "probably" work with the older Ford bracket but some adapting might be needed. As I have a custom bracket from CVF Racing I don't want to start hacking it up, so a Saginaw pump it is.
The power steering box fits without any cutting of the frame or mount.
I also got the steering shaft. It is from a 71-72 power steering 2wd. There is the little extra thread at the top which i will have to remove. This was the safest way to go so that if anything comes up I can swap back to the manual steering without any hassle. Everything original is intact and stored away.
Here are the two shafts, top (new shaft is the bottom one):
And Bottom (new shaft is the top one):
I'm not sure what the extra piece is at the bottom of the new shaft, but i believe it is the retainer. It has two small hex bolts on it.

And yes, that clamp at the bottom is snugged up under the lower column bearing to make sure the retainer cone and bearing do not come out. Some used clamps, some used collars. Not sure which used what. I think it had something to do with year/model/options.

So still on the power steering journey. I'm sure most people would be driving by now but I'm still
Here's where I'm at. the first pump i got was from a '79 f250. It came with the power steering box which is now installed on the truck. Its the plastic reservoir style from 79-late 80's or 90's. It was on a 300 or something like that so the bracket wouldn't work. I ordered a fancy-schmancy bracket from cvfracing.com after speaking with them directly on the phone and explained which pump I had. Wrong bracket and doing some research not sure any of their brackets would have worked!
the bracket they sold me was for the saginaw pump, and seeing that it is considered the better pump compared to the older style, I bought a saginaw pump from ebay off an 80's van. It's a 3/4 inch diameter shaft pump. I've mocked it up in the photo below.
So now I still need a pulley and I believe an adapter for the return line. I have the original 2 groove crank pulley on the 360 engine, no A/C. Can anyone tell me a pulley that will work for me? I'm not sure how to determine offset or if I need an offset pulley. CVFRacing has two different pulleys for v belt FE 360/390 engines with 3/4 inch press fit diameters but not sure what the difference is?
