Disc Brake Proportioning Valve Bracket question

Post by Gaslight »

I have a 69 with four wheel drum. I am keeping my eyes open for the parts to convert it to front disk rear drum. A couple of ebay auction came up and both items are supposedly off a 73. But I don't understand why both? The proportioning valve I get. But where does the distribution valve go?

The first link is not a proportioning valve, its a drum/drum brake pressure differential valve.

The second link is not a proportioning valve, its a stand-alone metering valve used on 68-72 F250s with front discs.

What you need is the '73-79 combination valve. Starting in 1973, Ford combined the brake pressure differential valve, the metering valve and the proportioning valve into a single unit called the combination valve....obviously because ot combines all three into a single unit.

Thank you for that! Printed that page out for more reading. I have messed with a bunch of braking systems but these early Ford systems are throwing me a bit. Mine has 4 wheel drum and I have them working really well. Its been the 80's since I messed with 4 wheel drum. Its been quite a learning process.

Thank you again for the help.
