1968 Ford F-600 Air Brakes

Post by FoMoCo1 »

I have a 1968 Ford F-600 with a 330 CID 4 speed transmission with the 2 speed rear-end. The truck was originally ordered and owned by TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority). The truck has air brakes, not air over hydraulics, only air brakes with a compressor mounted to the front of the engine.

I'm been searching for a diagram for this system so I can identify and replace parts, (mainly air hoses). But, any other part that may be bad. The truck was parked for over 25 years and I got the engine running however I have no brakes due to rotted rubber air hoses. Has anyone ever seen this system and could offer some help please? Thanks!

If you can't get any info here try Yesterdays Tractors.

Never would've thought about F-600 air brakes on a tractor forum. But, a lot of the old grain farm trucks were F-600's and such. I figured someone here may have one or know about them. Thank you for you're help! Much appreciated!

I have a '62 F700 Grain truck, but it's hydraulic. All the brake info is in the shop manual, it covers all F series up to 800, not just the light ones. I think the 68 manual is the same, however by '71 or so they were split up.

Which shop manual are you referring to, do you have a manual showing strictly air brake systems?

I have the 61 manual, it has a section on air brakes, but I have no scanner, and I expect the brakes changed in 67?

But here's the first part, most of what follows is tractor-trailer brakes.
I had to reduce the size, and quality is compromised, if you want an E mail copy, PM me your info.

That picture is what I have! At least very, very similar. What are they calling that rear valve at the very back of the frame? PM sent, and thank you!

I know hydraulic brakes went to dual reservoir in '67, probably air changed to dual chamber, but I am not sure, I'm just a hobbyist, not an expert.

I found this in my '67 horde, if needed.

First page has some air brake specs, that's all the brake info it has.
