1972 f100 rear drum

Post by KulpFarm »

I order a bunch of parts that I thought met the criteria for my truck but found out some were wrong and others are right (I think). Most catalogs have two option for my truck. Beside pulling the wheels, I do I know what I need. Can it be done from a VIN number?

A standard F100 used 2" x 11" shoes. Those were the most common. There were other options available but not frequently ordered and mostly came with other option packages like heavy duty towing or camper options. The F100, while capable, was not really considered suitable for those applications, they were mostly F250/F350's. Options were not detailed in the VIN but you may have additional information on the door tag, like the rear axle model codes. Options packages were commonly known by their badges and model designations like Camper Special, Heavy Duty Special and Contractor Special.

It's also possible that in the last 40 odd years someone may have swapped an axle .
It's best if you can , to match up parts with a local parts store. :2cents:

Thank you all for the info. I’m going to head out at some point to get the axel identification.
