Rattling E-brake pedal while driving? Here's an easy fix.
My emergency brake pedal was giving a loud metallic tapping sound while I was driving at cruise speed. It has a very slight side-to-side play. I didn't really want to remove the pedal assembly and drill out the pedal cross pin and replace it with a bolt so that it can be adjusted tighter, but I did notice a hole stamped just below the rub area of the pedal frame. I found a plastic push pin the same diameter as the hole and that had a head about 3/16" thick. After installing the push pin, its head sticks up slightly higher than the rub area, so it now keeps tension against the pedal when it is in the off position. Hence, no more rattle!

No problem! I'm just glad I was able to fix that annoying rattle. It's been plaguing me for a while now. Being that my truck only has 99,000 original miles, I'm surprised it was even an issue. Nevertheless, it was.390FE1972 wrote:Thanks for sharing this info! Have not had this issue yet, but I am going to save it for future reference.
