I'm looking at replacing my old shock absorbers on my 1972 F250. My truck has a 390 engine and has the 7500 GVW suspension. I have seen some videos that say you should use the hydraulic shocks instead of the gas shocks on the older vehicles as they originally came with hydraulic shocks.
My questions are does it matter if you use hydraulic or can you use the gas shocks without creating a much rougher ride. My truck is a 2wd, so I'm looking for suggestions on what brand and type of shock I should use on the fronts and back.
Thanks for any inputs!!

Re: F250 Shock Recommendations
All shocks have some sort of hydraulic oil. The "gas" part just increased the body pressure a lot to keep the oil from aerating. Gaseous oil flows much quicker than liquid oil so you lose shock absorber function once the oil aerates.
You can tell when a shock is dead by how the shaft comes out of the body when left loose. Since the displacement is the shock shaft diameter if you could measure the force required to keep it from moving you'd be able to figure the PSI in the body.
