Good parts source

Post by Big bird »

Hi, I was handed an LMC catalog while looking for a truck. I just recently purchased a '72 F250 Camper Special Ranger XLT. I've found many items in it that I would like to buy. ? is, is this a good souce for parts and are ther others. I'm looking to fix it up. Not a full on restoration, just want to purchase good OEM parts. Currently I'm working on the interior. Plan is to rebuild the 390, replace rear slider, newer headlights(yes this won't be original), all new rubber inside/outside/underneath and new wheels/tires.

I belong to several Ford Truck Forums, and on all of them, people complain about the quality of LMC's Rubber items, so I would avoid those.

Best bet is to ask about specific items, hopefully those who have direct experience will pipe up and give feedback.....

Thank you for the reply. I had read an earlier post talking about the bad rubber from them.

I had a similar experience w/ LMC's rubber parts. Dennis Carpenter makes really good rubber parts. If you have the chrome trim on your rear window and windshield DC makes the correct grooves in the seal. Suggest not skimping on getting good weather stripping. I also had good luck with parts from Mac's Auto Parts.

Dennis Carpenter is my prime source for quality parts. They use original Ford tooling for many of their items. Mac's is also good but they occasionally backorder items they say are in stock on their website. I've never had any issues with quality or service from CG Ford Parts also. I get steering column parts from Carolina Classics and they're a great bunch of guys. Flahback F100's has a limited selection but carries parts other's don't. I get a lot of NOS stuff from Ebay but choose sellers wisely based on reviews and ratings. The Parts Wanted and Parts For Sale section on the forum sometimes gets you great items from our own members. CJ Pony Parts sometimes carries items that work for our trucks since they were similar on the Mustang. LMC and NPD are my last resort.

Have been somewhat disappointed with rubber from Mac's. Their fuel neck grommet thingies look like crap only days after installing them. Their window weatherstripping has held up very well although it was much more difficult to install than others I have done.

Not sure if they have it labeled specifically for bumps but they do carry a multitude of profiles very similar if not exact. I bought some rubber for my '64 Fairlane vent window and it was almost identical. Very good quality too.

OEM stands for original equipment as manufactured. By definition you won't find OEM parts at not only LMC but any aftermarket supplier. The only place to find OEM parts is a Ford dealer or NOS (new old stock) from an E-bay seller. Many deal in old dealer stock closeout purchases. It helps to know your part # so that you can search by that number. You can enter the part # and when and if one is available, E-bay will notify you.
