New to the forum. I grew up driving a 77 custom light green f100 SWB 4x4 with a 4 speed and dad dropped a 400 in it because he wanted the torque. This was a farm and coyote hunting rig. I have a line on a 76 SWB 2wd that appears the same color. The interior is remarkably new. The exterior is nearly damage free. Has some rust in the normal places, cab corners, over the rear wheel. I haven't got to examine in person yet. It has a 300 with a 3 on the tree. I have no idea about power steering or breaks yet. the tailgate and bed are super nice and dent free. I am hoping to see it today. If I get it I'll post pics. I like the idea of the 300 and 3 on the tree. i'll fix the rust, and paint the whole thing back to the light green color. What say you? is the 3 on the tree too stoopid?.. i kinda like it.

from Georgia! The 3 on the tree is most definitely not stupid. Once you master it, it's pretty cool. One benefit is that you won't have to worry about anybody else borrowing your truck because they won't be able to drive it. And the 300 inline 6 is one of the best engines ever made.

I'd have to agree with Sargenters about the 300 straight 6. They are bullet proof.

Agreed, 30 plus year production run for the 300 six. Under appreciated engine.

first truck I ever bought....76 3on tree 300 six and then had another later in life(no 2nd gear )for awhile. Had a 96 300 six with a 4spd in it and it just wasn't the same
I've had enough and I'm not alone

Re: 76 SWB 300 6 build
I love my '72 SWB I6 and 3OTT, My rig originally had the smaller 6 but got a crate 300 some 8 or 9 years ago (previous owner)
great little truck, I put a Offy intake and edelbrock 500cfm carb on it (too many problems with my Holley 390cfm) and its a great little runner. I converted my manual steering to power steering....... it was a PAIN to find a original power steering 3spd column, so many 3 speeds in the early 70's were manual steering. hopefully for your sake it already had pwr steering.
Its a great truck, and I feel bad I dont drive it more. i6 engines are great!
3OTT - or 3 on the tree - is great for keeping open floorspace, the lady can ride in the middle without getting in your way. or you could ride 3 deep if thats your style. I like the 3OTT setup, when my column isnt acting up!
