Post by gohunt »

...yesterday my 1967 F100 was purchased new! It was manufactured in Nov. 1966 in Ontario and apparently bought new by Frank Rogers on December 16, 1966. A special order for the Atlanta region and sold by A.G. White Ford in Cartersville, GA. I bought it from the original owner family bout 6 months ago and drove by the dealership (with a new name) as I went to pick it up. Although the cab has quite a bit of rust underneath, it is in amazingly original condition. It is a short, step side bed, big block (352cid), 4 speed, 4 wheel drive. I believe only less than 260 units were made in this short step side 4wd configuration.

1967 4x4 had a 352.
I did not know that.

Did they come with the 600 I6?

Thanks for your great post and yes these trucks made their first debut in the fall of 1966. In our little town back in them years the GM dealership was just across the street from the Ford store. A new 1967 Chevrolet C10 was delivered to the GM dealership in October 1966, 283 - 4 speed 2 wheel drive and basically zero trim. In 1967 the basic C10 Chevrolet came with a small rear window and looked like a 1950 Studebaker! BUT, it only took another couple weeks and the '67 Ford and Mercury pickups starting showing up at the Ford store and what a sight that was! And a Ford or Mercury Ranger!!? Holy crap the engineers looked like they finally got it right! Engine choices were 240-6, 300-6, or the FE 352 and yes, these engines were gold color, oil bath air cleaners and 4 wheel drive was available. A loaded up 4X4, Ford or Mercury Ranger, 352 4 speed 3.50 rears and 3.53 fronts was $4250. In Canada anyway. I was 16 when I saw my first bump in the fall of 1966, have owned and sold 2 of them and now own 3. Thank You for your post, hope others of "my vintage" can share.

Y'all get ready! Although it is in pretty good original condition, this truck IS a project. Right now it runs pretty good and I enjoy just getting out and driving it around. It needs some sheet metal cut out and replaced.

So let me tell y'all how I'm thinking about this an invite feedback. Currently the cab needs both floorboards, front and rear cab supports. The top of the cab has some dents. Glass is good all the way around. This is a very low option truck. No radio, no chrome, etc. I would really like to have this truck as a Ranger cab/front end. So, my delima is do I shop around for a ranger cab and violate the originality of this truck, or, repair this cab and keep its originality. I know, I know, it's only original once.
