So mad I can't see strait

Post by 69Ford »

Brought my truck in for new tires today. I was at work beforehand so I did not take off the poverty hubcaps that I purchased on Ebay last year did I mention NOS perfect. Went to a firestone dealer my mistake thought they new what they were doing. When I got home looked at the tires. THEY BEAT THE LIVING S---- OUT OF MY HUBCABS. And not just a little but massively called them up and I have to meet with Jay tomorrow. I will let you know how it turns out. Does anybody do quality work anymore. Did they think I wouldn't notice.

Good thing they want to meet tomorrow....things would be getting ugly today before I had a chance to cool off. Whoever did this could see what they were doing to them and just continued.

Good luck !

And now I look at the receipt and they charged me for four valve stems that they did not replace.

Well thats a tough break.
Maybe a "skilled" paintless dent repair guy can press them out.?
or maybe you can find another set and they'll buy them for you. ?

keep us posted on your progress.

In they're defense ,most tire change techs haven't seen many dog dish caps, I'm surprised they got them off.

Looks like they owe you some hubcaps. Plus $$ for the efforts.

Jeez. Sorry to hear and see what these knuckleheads did to your caps. Idiots.

For recourse, document EVERYTHING.. dates, times, names, employee numbers, work orders, receipts, etc. Document that they did not replace the valve stems but charged you nonetheless.. that's plain fraudulent. Do not accept anything unless the fully correct the valve stems and replace or repair the hubcaps...Or provide compensation... get it in writing.

They need to make this square. And if they dont, then work up to the regional office and contact your local news station and discuss the matter with their news director and consumer advocate/reporter.

Avoid flaming them until you have exhausted all reasonable remedies for them to correct the damage.

That sucks. A good hammer and dolly man should be able to work them back straight. Sadly those guys are dying off the Bondo breed.

Firestone... I'm surprised you didn't lose one on the way home.

I completely understand feeling upset about something like this. I would be very bummed out too. I worked at a Goodyear store when I was a kid getting started in the trade. Below is a tire shop multipurpose hammer. This is what they use for getting hubcaps off and back on pretty much no matter what. I can tell you from being there, this is used to pound plastic wheel covers back on all day long. They rarely see metal hubcaps anymore. their job is to get old tires off and get new tires on as fast as they can and move on to the next. These kids are basically just mechanics in training, I was getting 10 bucks and hour to work my behind off doing tires, oil changes, general repair etc etc under pressure all the time to go faster. Tire shops are basically your McDonalds or taco bells, fast food of the automotive industry. Now if I had taken a smack at a metal wheel cover and I saw it ding like that I would have been pretty mortified and try to take the ding out, but I have also been around old trucks with metal wheel covers since a young age so I knew better. Some kid who has only been around Honda's and newer cars wouldn't know better. But the service manager should have. He should be the older guy who directs the shop guys and a good service manager could have identified the possible risk of damage and made a note on the work order to use caution when replacing hubcaps. Hopefully you can get something worked out but grill the service manger more than the kid who did it because hes just that, a kid who didn't know any better, not only that, you know how many small things leave the shop and never come back or ever hear from again? Tire shops will take the chance that if some minor blemish happens they wont say anything and deal with it only if the customer notices and brings it back. to be on the safe side always make a note when bringing your truck in or just remove the caps before you take it in for work. :2cents:

I had a problem like that at my local tire shop. They left balancer cone marks on all my aluminum wheels. At least they made it right with me and replaced all my wheels. But it still pisses you off they they don't have enough respect to treat your stuff good. Hope your problem gets resolved in a timely manner.

Ok went back and talked to Jay. They went good on the valve stems. On the hubcaps after a little bit of back and forth I settled with them for $150. I paid $109 for them. Don't know if I will ever get another set as nice for $150 but its over. My dad always said if you want something done correct do it yourself. This really makes me think of him.

man, isn't that the truth though? I am so uptight when I go to take my superduty in for anything, I like to do most everything myself.

That's cool that they did 'something'. Honestly when they ding up thousand dollar wheels a set of NOS caps are pretty cheap when they show up. I'd have went with the price of a set of DC's and then try to find some NOS ones.

Hang the old ones on the wall as a reminder.

I believe that more and more. Most places are lost on bumpsides because there is no place to plug in their diagnostic tester.
