OT: 1973 Mercury Montego Motor Swap.

Post by ford4x4fun »

Hey Everyone,

Been awhile since I have been on here, haven't had a lot of time to do anything with my truck. My wife and I adopted an adorable little girl, that being said that took a lot of time and money. Anyhow now to the topic at hand. I have a 1973 Mercury Montego with a tired 400m bolted to a C6. I am wanting to either get this motor rebuilt, or swap it for something I can get a little more Horsepower out of. I believe a 460 will bolt right in, but not 100% on that, just something I read about the motor mounts being the same. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

And the Montego, Also in search for a decent set of Rims, willing to trade these they are in great shape just not my cup of tea!

Cute kid , nice looking car.
A 429/ 460 will bolt up to a 351M/400 tranny.
There are two different pilot sizes on the torque converter so look closely.

The motor mounts wont bolt up to the block ,but maybe a 460 T bird might work,?
