Forget full resto's .. That SWB '70 F100 looked dang nice. 22K was a fair price, for the buyer, and the seller.
Agreed.

So what if a company bought it just to get it to auction, it's another one back on the road.

As far as worth, that engine (if it was done right) and under hood work is close to 5k right there.

Compare that price to a new truck and it's a lot cheaper and the cool factor is waaay higher than any new one.
Sometimes the mind, for reasons we don't necessarily understand, just decides to go to the store for a quart of milk.

For what it's worth, my bump will be show quality. I WILL race it, haul my mustang with it, beat on it, and show it. I will have 30K in it when its done including the 3K I bought it for. I have done every ounce of work on it outside of machining the block. It would take over 50K to replicate if I had paid for the work to be done. All this knowing that it's not even close to bringing that value. Now, I want a truck like Hackster's 5.0 truck! Way more fun in that thing, with far less cleaning!
