Vin # on 1967 F100

Post by drew676674 »

Hope someone can help. I picked up my wifes family truck off the farm that was bought new in 67. We are currently restoring the truck. Now that am in the motor I was lead to believe that it was a 240 6cyl. But after breaking it down I have found it is a 300 cyl. This motor was not available in 67 for this truck. After speaking to the family the motor has never been changed but it was a late model 67. 68 offered the 300 in that truck. Also after looking up the plant that assembled that truck it is lettered for "N" which is Norfolk. But the numbers on the VIN show it should be Kanas City. After that being said anyone ever seen anything like this? And does the motor spec make any sense?

Thanks for any help

If the truck was late in the production run....could be possible to get a next model year engine in an old model year.
I would imagine it was easy to do since the 240 and 300 are so easily interchangeable.
or they ran out of 240's that day and just put a 300 in it to keep the production line moving, or it was friday and no one cared, throw an engine in it and lets get outta here.

Just an idea. I used to do production line work. I remember the Friday attitude very well

As far as assembly plant, no idea....
