tool compartment restore

I have a 72 F- 250 Camper Special with a tool compartment on passenger side, I want to restore the door latch but need known what kind of finish is required on the metal and are replacement gaskets available?

The latch was originally galvanized. I painted mine body color. The latch looks suspiciously like a Jeep CJ door handle, or a generic utility box handle in case you want to get inventive. Dennis Carpenter has the gasket.
