My 54 f-100 is in the body shop right now. Some rust at where the rear fenders meet the running boards is taken care of. I had some rust above the right headlight. but most importantly I am putting a new bed on it. When I first got the truck fixed up in 1999 I got a bed from a 1971 F-100. I was told the beds and fenders were the same from 1953 to 1972. And they are. My body man had a hard time getting the runningboards to meet the rear fenders. When i got the truck home I thought I could see a lot of wheel well.... something was wrong.
I measured my old bedside original to my 54 from the top of the fender to the beginning of the flare. Then I measured the same on the 71 bed now on my truck... The fenders on the 57 and up are mounted higher on the bedsides. Live and learn. Very few people except me would know the difference.
So I bought a new bed from Mid West Early Ford last summer.... just the bedsides, front panel and the rear crossmember.
So I have a 57 to 72 Ford Flareside bed for sale, local pickup only for $250. No bed wood, no tail gate. Just two bedsides, front panel and rear cross member.

How much lower are they? I'm looking for ideas to close the wheel opening on my flairside.

that's news to me! Very interesting, I thought they were all the same up to 72.
