5 row VIN

Post by EDVSU »

Quick question. I've been wondering what's up with my vinplate. The one in the door jamb. Usually everyone's is a regular 3 row plate, as in it has three rows of numbers.

Like so.

But my 70 bump has a five row vin. Lookie..

What's up with this? Sucks someone sanded it all down.

Should I remove it to see if I can see the entire sequence of numbers and stuff on the back ? ..
:?

I've seen where government ordered vehicles have more added to the VIN plate The contract number ETC. Don't know if this is your case I would do a Marti report and find out more.

Could have been made for adding a camper on or something as cab/chassis only. (I have that on my motorhome and saw it on smaller Uhaul trucks too)

Mine's a '71 cab and chassis and I only have the three line VIN plate.

I think you have a government or utility company bought truck. Take a piece of paper and a pencil and rub the pencil on it's side to make a "rubbing" and it looks like it may come out a lot clearer to read. Where did you buy the truck? What is the original color? Is it black with a blue interior?
The 3rd line last number "22" is a D.S.O. code indicating it was a vehicle built on a direct special order. No 22 means it was ordered in Charlotte. it's a F103 indicating a 4500 GVW. Looks like 170 HP @ 4100 RPM
Hope that somewhat helps.
Good luck........

I don't think my truck was a chassis cab bc my bed and cab have similar colors on it.

My truck is now white. But inside the door panels, inside the dash/behind the glovebox and under the door weatherstrip seals its green. I've been trying to see exactly what shade of green mine is, but the vin plate is not helping. I thinks it's boxwood but I can't 100% confirm it.

I don't know who had the truck before I did. The title had a name of some random dude, I didn't really see him. He sold the truck to my uncle not-running. My uncle brought it back to life as his truck, and I managed to get it from my uncle. The PO was kind of a car salesman or something bc my uncle said he always offering him vehicles for sale.
That's all I know about the PO.

I think it might of been a work/govt truck bc. It's not rusted as bad as a lot of other trucks are. I mean for it to have been from NJ it's pretty solid still.

Edit: seat is now black but where it's ripped I can see it was a blue cloth seat. Looks original still has the metal tag on the back and everything.

:hmm:

Some additional info about my bump:

1970 360 no pb no ps. 3 speed auto.
It is a Ranger bc it has the Argent tailgate panel. The aluminum trim on the edges of the door panels. Ranger emblems on the bed panel. And on the glove box.
It's a Swb.
Used to have the trim on the bump too bc I can see the filed holes inside the door jam.

I checked to make sure my vin was the same on my door jam. My title. And my frame. So it's legit.
I just ordered the Marti report so we should have an update soon. ..

Here's what I came up with
Model F103
115 Wheelbase
Color Boxwood Green
Automatic Transmission
Ford 9" 3.25 Gears
Built Dec 1969 Mawah New Jersey Shipped to Charlotte area as DSO
360 Motor
170 Horsepower @ 4100 RPM's
Gross Vehicle Weight 4500
Style Side
Interior code I couldn't decipher. You could be right on the black seat as the code could be D

I never heard of F103 but that's what I deciphered. Please let us know what the MARTI report says. I would like to know how close I am. I hope you have something out of the ordinary.

I think I've just figured out what you have there. Ford made two vin tags one on the door and one for the glove box warranty Info. The lower half looks exactly like the warranty tag. I'll bet they never got separated at the factory before being riveted to the door. Here's a pic of a warranty tag

Thanks a bunch for looking up that info for me 69FORD, much appreciated.
You almost hit it off perfect with the vin decoding.

Here's what I got from the Marti Report.

The Marti report is good. I ordered a new door jamb plate too hopefully I get another wierd one. If they send me a regular 3 row one. I'll send it back. Lol

The only problem now is that the report brought up more questions. Like the color combo.
New lime green + boxwood green :hmm: :?

I'll bet they send the three row VIN They also make the warranty tag. A person could ask if they would make one like yours. Your truck is cool SWB Ranger.

 :nono: I want a big one!
Regardless of what I get. I'm not taking off the original. It feels special now. New one will go on the passenger door. or in the glove box.

Ok so about the report. The vin plate says model F103.
My 69' says F100 bc it's an F100.
If it has F250 it's a F250.
So does that make mine an F103 instead of F100?
What does all this mean? :hmm:

What it all means, its all about the GVW.....That's why your plate says 4500 for the GVW.....
Example:
F-100 Series:
F-100 = 5,000 GVW
F-101 = 4,200 GVW
F-102 = 5,000 GVW Pennsylvania
F-103 = 4,500 GVW
F-104 = 4,800 GVW
F-100 series 4X4 Goes from F-110 to F-113

F-250 Goes from F-250, F-252, F-253, F-254, F-255 and F-256
f-250 4X4 goes from F-260. F-262, F-263 and F-264
F-350 are similar.

So the Series designation goes like this:
F-100 4X2 = F10
F-100 4X4 = F11
F-250 4X2 = F25
F-250 4X4 = F26
F-350 4X2 = F35
Hope all this info helps...
