Any way to tell?

Post by LANCE65 »

An F100 frame from an F250 frame? I know the vin stampings.
Let me tell the story....
I am constipating trading my 1984 F250 Diesel for a 1969 "F100" that has 8 lug suspension...The vin on the cab says it's an F100. I just want to know if the cab has been swapped or if the vin was swapped or if someone actually went through the trouble to swap out the 1/2t suspension for 3/4t stuff? I asked the owner about the vin on the frame by the alternator, but he said they could not see/find it.
So my question is, shy of measuring the frame, is there any other way to tell if its an F100 or F250 frame?
Thanks

2WD or 4WD? I'm guessing 2WD because the 4WD version should be easy to spot by the extra cross member on the front of the frame for the leaf spring mount. This is a little more difficult to add to a F100 but I guess it can be done. Anyway, the frame prints on this site show and different bracket on the cross member in the center of the frame between the F100 and F250 on the 2WD version. If your dealing with a 2WD I would look hear first.

I had a hard time finding mine as well but I found it. My cab didn't the sticker or door tag so I had to get a picture and tracing of the frame vin to get it titled in my state.

Good Luck

I once drove 3 hours to look at a "long bed pickup"- I had called and asked if it really was an 8 foot bed and they reassured me it was. The second I pulled into their drive way I could tell it was a short bed... I didn't even get out of the truck, just backed out and drove an angry 3 hours back home.

I'd rather have it that way than the other way around :D
