How to remove a distribitor
360 FE Motor I took the clamp off and removed the insides of the distributor points ETC. Tried pulling up on it. It went up about an inch and stopped. Am I doing something wrong. Hopefully I did not wreck anything or is it just stuck.

Re: How to remove a distribitor
The gears on the distributor end are canted so when they mesh with the camshaft, the two meet at an angle. Try putting the rotor back on and then turning the rotor while pulling up on the distributor. Can't remember which way to go, but I bet you'll find out by trying each way. One way should let the gears separate. Dan

And you'll have the same issue putting it back in. You'll have to rotate the shaft as you press down to engage the gears and the oil pump shaft. You'll feel it twist as it goes down. If it still doesn't give, try turning the crank with a breaker bar. Don't turn the engine over with the starter or you might break something.

Here it is finished I actually polished the aluminum that you see. I was quit surprised at how crappy the casting of the aluminum was lots of spatter and heavy flash not takin off at the factory I used a dremel and took the heavy stuff off sanded to 1200 and polished wish I'd taken more time but looks pretty good for 46 years old.

Re: How to remove a distribitor
Here is a little tip when you reinstall the dizzy. After you install it start the engine and first thing to do is check the oil pressure. If you don't have any take the dizzy back out and reinstall it because it missed the shaft that drives the oil pump and make sure it goes all the way down.
