Swap questions
I have done a lot of reading but still not 100% sure on some stuff. Basically, I have a 70 swb 302 3 on the tree with no power brakes or steering, I'm getting a 70 lab 360 auto with power steering, power brakes and AC. I going to be swapping the power steering, brakes and maybe the AC into mine. I know it's all not going to fit, like the trans of course, but 75% of the main stuff will! correct? I know I'm going to have to hunt up some stuff but most of it should be on the donor truck. By the way, I'm going with an AOD or maybe a C6 for a 302, probably AOD because of gas mileage.

I'm still trying to decipher your original post, sure some others are too.Cmozez wrote:So 40+ folks have read this and no one is going to share any knowledge?
PB and PS conversions are pretty simple if you stay within your trucks grade (F100, F250 etc) and up through '79. There's some detailed stuff under the main page's tech articles.
The AOD is going to be a PITA to source the correct parts for. Since you didn't specify what year engine you have you'll need to find the correct imbalance flywheel, 50oz or 28oz and you'll have to figure out something for the TV cable with a carb setup or old '80's TB rig. I'm not a big fan of AOD's and honestly a C6 is probably overkill behind a 302. 302/C4 with 3.25 gears should get decent mileage. Unless there's something really wrong with your 3 speed I'd do a floor shift conversion and call it good.
Maybe some more specific questions will net some better answers.

Re: Swap questions
Everything on the truck should bolt right in except anything that mounts directly to the engine or the transmission. You'll need the associated brackets related to that component for that engine. Biggest ones are going to be the engine perches, power steering brackets, and anything AC related. The AC install from a non-AC truck to an AC truck is pretty extensive.

Re: Swap questions
Well I guess sargentrs and I are on the same wavelength because he gave me the answer I was looking for. Thanks for the transmission info Ranchero, the engine is supposed to be the original. I considered a c4 but would really love an overdrive but it may not be worth the trouble.
Thanks for the replies fellas

Re: Swap questions
The easiest way to get an overdrive is with a manual trans. But I know that's not for everyone.

Re: Swap questions
The truck is going to be for my wife so I really want to go auto. If it were for me, I would leave it as is

Re: Swap questions
I would consider a CV front end swap and a mod motor / auto combo.

Re: Swap questions
That may be a very good option Ranchero but I'm a pushrod guy. What would be the advantage going efi mod motor over going efi 5.0?

Re: Swap questions
The 4.6 bolts to the crown vic perches making the swap easier.
