Thanks Crazyhorse, I'd forgotten about Joe Diffie. One of my favorites of his was Third From the Sun.

Re: What's your favorite car song?
A lot of us born in 1950 like I was have seen a tremendous evolution in music. We have seen big bands, listened to big vacuum tube radios, remember our first black and white TV, when TV was real entertainment, as well the evolution of acoustic guitars and thanks to folks like Les Paul, the electric guitar. We survived the 60's, somehow, and the music, dress and changing times, big block cars that could smoke tires for two city blocks that all led to the memories we may cherish, or not. I still like mini skirts! My parents ordered the '59 Edsel Corsair in the fall of 1958 that I now own. Our local dealer called here to say that the car was being delivered that afternoon on a car carrier. We travelled to town in our '55 Mercury Monarch, the car that they traded for the Edsel, and as a 9 year old kid watched intently as the polar white over pastel blue brand new Edsel was carefully unloaded off the very top, rear of the carrier. We drove the car down the highway and I will always remember how quiet and smooth it was. And favorite car song? Dad turned on the radio, which had to warm up of course, and the first song was "Broken Hearted Melody" by Sarah Vaughn. I guess things like that just seem to stick somehow. It's interesting to view the response to this thread and I hope others share. I gave a lecture to the High School Grad Class of '97, the class of my second daughter, and I asked them to never forget their school, their friends and especially the music of their day. They, to this day, cannot figure out why I still like Beatles, Beach Boys, Turtles and Troggs etc. but that was the music of my day and a lot of these bands only made one hit wonders to make enough money to get through University or College and did well. Now the "entertainers????" come out half clad and have to hang onto their crotches to make a "note???" Are you kidding me? I'm glad I lived the time I did and owe it all to my parents and family. I will share more about favorite car songs, if I can remember.

Mr Edsel, thank you for that post. It brings back memories from long ago.
I hope this thread stays up with the good history from years ago.

Switchblade 327 by Brian Setzer is a great song... Complete with car race sounds and that deadman's curve story line... Great stuff.
"Switchblade, 327
lit cigarette in his hand
steel toe boots on the accelorator
oil leakin' out of the pan
Switchblade, three two barrels,
gettin' there as fast as he can
all juiced up like a hot carburetor
spittin' gas onto the fan"

I'd have to say Louie-Louie (sp?). Seems to me we were rocking out to that song in my 1949 Chevy sedan delivery the day we graduated from high school in 1966.

Re: What's your favorite car song?
HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!!!!
Car song, "Beep, Beep" and "Little GTO". the ones closest to my heart. My mom had a little Nash Rambler when I was a kid and my Uncle had to work on it quite often when it wouldn't start.
I also owned a 65 Goat back in the day. You know GTO stands for "Gas Tickets & Oil." I got my share of tickets as it had the 389, 3-2's Muncie 4 speed and a posi. I could blow the doors off a 409 Impala. A CHP busted me one time when we were on a long straight road on Hwy 88 at midnight with a full moon and I had the speedometer buried. the only reason he caught me was I slowed down to turn into Ione and he finally caught me half way through town when I had to wait for a train. He was not a happy camper and almost took me to jail but he couldn't prove I was doing over 135+.
Yea, the good old days and that one cost me plenty. I had to sell the goat and resorted to a VW Bug of all things so I could afford insurance. After about 6 months I pulled the engine in the V Dub and pumped it up considerably. That brought a whole new era of my hot rodding as the V Dub was a screamer. 0 to 90 in no time. I set a new track record at Fremont Drag Strip for 4 cylinder cars. Cops never bothered me as they didn't think a V Dub could go that fast!
Don't forget "One Piece at a Time" by Johnny Cash!
