I specifically sought out a short bed. I was hoping for something older but either they were way out of my price range or they were something that was going to be a decades long project. I wanted a driver so I have my 68. Luckily its a 240 with 3 speed which is exactly what I wanted. My wife says the proportions of the cab to the bed are off. She is right at some angles, at others its good.

I too have a short flareside. At the wrong angle it kinda has that small dog with a BIG head look. Image

To me it depends on what you are doing with the truck. If the truck is being lowered; I think the short beds look the best. I have only seen a few long beds that looked "right" in my eyes when they were lowered; and those typically had a very tall tire on the back to take up a lot of space. Stock restoration, they both can look great. Lifted/4x4 then I would 100% build a long bed. A short bed 4x4 looks goofy to me; especially as the tire size grows.

On another note. People go through a lot of effort to convert long beds to short beds. I have always wondered what it would look like to just shorten the front half of the bed and leave the extra two inches in the back of the bed. A intermediate bed per say. Kinda a 63 Galaxie look with the long trunk.
