I've heard from a few folks that Ca. gas gets significantly fewer mpg's than other state's gas.
I happily seized upon this notion because I hate Ca. But I live there. I know, I should move. And I did several years ago. But over time the locals where I lived found out where I was from. And started treating me like crap ever after. So I moved back. Seriously, I blended in real well. I cheerfully killed and ate non-domesticated, wild animals. Drank crappy beer. Made huge bonfires for no good reason. Made misogynistic comments about women and feigned homophobia. I even had a low paying, dead-end, miserable blue collar job that I hated. Just like the rest of them. But to no avail... afterwards, I may as well have been a leper. Sigh...
Anyways, can anybody who lives on a border state confirm the whole gas thingy?

Re: California gas?
Here in Kalifornia, we have Ethanol blended into our gasoline. Its basically a filler. It takes more volumne of this stuff to make the same amount power as gasoline so you burn through more of it to get the same bang for your buck. It has caused other drivability issues with older carbureted vehicles since it lowers the boiling point of gas. and I can see them getting a little poorer milage than running straight gasoline.

Re: California gas?
Ditto, emissions blends with ethanol and other additives deliver less BTU per pound of fuel. In MD I loved running winter gas in my blown stang.

Re: California gas?
The other thing to note about California gas: It is the same gas no matter where you buy it, the only difference between gas station pumps is the additives added at the pump. All gas is wholesaled at limited distribution points throughout the state. The system does lend itself to a consistent level of quality throughout the state. Now if there was some way to make it cheap like the Midwest... not gonna happen.

Re: California gas?
Yep, same problem on the other side of the Cali hating country. Might not be quite as bad over here in Georgia though. Our gas is only 10% ethanol, don't know what y'all have over there. Not great for any motor, but carbs definitely have it worse. It's a small part of the reason that when get around to building mine, it'll get a EFI system.
