I know it's not 67-72, but does anyone know any goods and bads on a 61? I'm looking at maybe picking one up. It is a 61 F100 short bed (not unibody). It has rust through in the drip rails. bottom of the doors, cab corners, and the bed floor is pretty bad. Floorboards are nice. Interior is complete, seat has been redone. windshield cracked. Runs and drives, but needs the suspension gone through (original), Along the line, someone swapped in a Chrysler 318 and 727 trans. Owner has the bumpers and original wheels. clean title on non-op.

Rust. Otherwise, treat like a bump.
It had better be a good deal to take on a Chrysler powerplant, trans,.and rusty roof rails.

Beds not original to truck, but it's a score being a short bed.
The 61-63 trucks came with what is called "Wrong Beds" long story but the just of it is: Ford introduced the "Unibody" which was suppose to be the new truck style.
And the trucks that were not "Unibody" were outfitted with the beds on hand 57-60 hence the name "Wrong Bed"
The bed you have was from a 64-66, 64 was the first year body lines matched cab and bed.The grille says 61
The tailgate is original to the 64-66
If the bed floor is in good condition you have a "In demand for bed" People looking high and low for a good short bed.
If you can deal with all the rust go for it. Hopefully the price is low enough.
Better look the frame over real good for rust, cracks and patch jobs.

I'm going to try to get it for a good deal. Rust repair and bodywork isn't too big of a deal to me.

Well I bought it. Got it for a good deal. It runs like a champ. Needs a few things, but it's a good project I can drive and use while I work on it.
It's a 61 with 64 bed. Chrysler 318, 727 trans, ratchet shifter. It has a fuel cell in the bed. 8 inch rearend.
After a good scrubbing.
Bumper on.
And the 318.
So far I got the taillights working and troubleshot the brake lights (needs a switch), greased all the window regulators that were seized, installed the front bumper, cleaned it up, made a lot of plans, and tested everything out.
One top priority is getting the front suspension squared away, it was a very loose ride during the test drive, but it's all fixable. Front disc brakes are on the agenda as well, then repair the bed, then redo the fuel system. And everything else can be attended to in time.

Re: 1961 F100
It also has tinted back and side windows, which I wouldn't have done, but since it's done, it's fine with me.

Re: 1961 F100
One thing I'm not sure about is the VIN/trim tag. I found some of the info on line, but no real solid info on what I have here. If anyone can help, that would be appreciated.
