1974 351W supercab?

Post by Nicole »

Did they make a Supercab model f100 or f150 with a 351w in 1974?
I have a truck with F150 logos and a 351w (from shape of intake manifold), but paperwork says its an F100. VIN plate matches title but specifies an F100 with Engine code "H" for a 390. I'm trying to determine whether someone just put on later parts, or whether it is actually a transitional model made at the end of 1974. It looks just like a 1975 supercab I saw elsewhere on this forum, with the square headlights and "grid" style grille.
I'm trying to get parts to restore it and can't figure out what to ask for. Any ideas appreciated! -- Nicole

Hi Nicole.

I'm not a dent side guy, but I'm pretty sure that the square headlights did not start until 1978.

Have you checked the other numbers (for instance on the frame) to see if perhaps the door was replaced? If the vin says it was a 390, that is what it was when it left Ford, but folks do a lot of swapping so what it was when it left Ford and what it is now could be vastly different.

Also, are you in the US... It is possible things were different for export.

Square headlights did not start till mid 1978, and the core support is different between 73-77 and 78/79.. LOOK And see if the sticker is still on the core support,, then look at the engine especially head bolts,, if the head bolt has a washer built in it then its a 351-w,, if no washer is built in the head bolts then a 302, BUT If it has a washer separate from head bolts then it's a 302 with 351-w heads.. Suppose not to have 351-w in the trucks till the 80's but with Ford never say never on trucks back then
