The 5000.00$ question
I have a 68 SB and I am looking to do some mods on this truck. If you had 5000.00 to spend on any mods what would you guys do? Right now I have a mild cammed 302 with less than 50,00 miles on it. A good c4 and 3.70 rear end gears. The truck went through a resto in the 90's and it has a front end out of a 75 f150 with disc brakes. The body is clean as far as rust goes but needs paint.

PS was part of the 75 150 swap, has A/C and PDB in front with drums in rear. My wish list is to put in an AOD, install coil overs and rear disc brakes with paint.

Re: The 5000.00$ question
If you're happy with your engine (got headers?) Then a new tranny and a limited slip differential and still have money to spare. I went with the PowerTrax No-Slip.

Re: The 5000.00$ question
I don't know what the paint job would run you (if you're paying someone else to do the work). If someone else is doing it, it's likely to take most or all of that amount.
Whatever the case, if I had $5,000.00 dollars to spend and needed a paint job, that's what I would spend the money on.
After that, I would add changes as money would allow.
If you add the stuff to it now, the way it presently sits, that's just more stuff that will have to be pulled off before you can strip the truck down, paint, and have to put it all back on again.
If you start with a clean, painted truck, the extras can be added to an already nice rig. Not the other way around.
This is just my opinion of what I would do with the money, if it were mine.

Re: The 5000.00$ question
Unless the body is nearly perfect I doubt 5000.00 will get a really quality paint job.
Should do fuel injection and an AOD swap...

I'd swap in a TBI setup from "Afforadable fuel injection" and a 4r70w.

Re: The 5000.00$ question
Thanks for the replies. I've got hooker headers on the 302 now. I like the idea of fuel injection. I seriously doubt I will be throwing a high quality paint job on the truck. I still have to use it for hauling every now and then. The IFS idea is also great but I don't really have the skills to make that swap with all the welding and fab work that would have to be done. I can turn a wrench but I've never done any fab work. The AOD swap and paint is gonna happen just not sure what else yet. I might have to bump up my 5000.00 to 7000. 00!

Re: The 5000.00$ question
So it's been awhile since I've been on the site, mainly because I've been really busy with all the mods on the 68. So far I have installed an AOD tranny which I got from salvage yard for 300$ and spent another 1000$ having it completely rebuilt with a stage 2 kit which is suppose to be good for 450hp. My truck don't make no where near that but I was thinking for the future. I also installed a DJM I beam 3" drop kit in front and a 6" kit in back also from DJM which cost about 700$ While I was doing the kit up front I went ahead and replaced the king pins, tie rod ends, drag link bar, and shocks. While doing the kit in the rear I also installed all new bushings for leaf springs and shackle, new shocks, axle bearings and installed MB products disc brake conversion. All of that was appro. 700$
So the truck is pretty tight at this point.
After that was all done I decided to do a bucket seat conversion and put in a console. I have since moved the shifter from the column to the floor using a lokar kit and I'm loving it.
More to come if any one is interested!!
