Looking For a NEW DD Ridgeline or Sport Trac

Post by IN2FORD »

My 02 F150 Supercrew has 205k on it and is getting tired.

Using some oil and trans seems to be getting weak. I really don't need a full size anymore so I am looking at mid-size trucks. One of my best buds has worked for Honda for 25yrs and we have always bought Honda's for my wife so I thought I would consider a Ridgeline. Extremely reliable and has the largest mid size bed, plenty of cabin room and good mpg. The all wheel drive setup would work good for me in the occasional snow. I really don't need the true 4wd. Downside for me is no V8 and no V8 sound. I have had a V8 Ford truck for over 20yrs. So I am also considering a 2007 or 8 Sport Trac V8. Downside to the Sport Trac is smaller bed, mpg is worse, 4.6 3 valve spark plug issues, but it's a V8 Ford!!

All things for what I need point to the Ridgeline but it will be tough to not drive a V8 Ford truck. Well as soon as I get the Krusty Kab done I will have a V8 Ford I guess.
What's your opinion?

I don't know about the Hondas but the Explorers seem to hold up well ,I always thought they feel small inside.
But I'm used to full size also.

Now from the Michigan point of view on your F150.
Is that as clean as it looks in the picture? around here you would need rockers, door bottoms and box sides.
It might be more cost effective to address the issues you have and drive it longer. :2cents:

It is that clean. No rust at all. And I have thought about that because I am Mr. Cheap! $1500 for a trans, motor runs fine but is using 1-2 qrts between 5k oil change and seems to be loosing power. So probably another $2500 for a motor. Not sure it would be the right investment. This is the 3rd one of these I have owned in this body style and are very reliable up to this point. But throwing another $4k in it, not sure that is the right answer. It's only worth maybe $5k retail. I am about to go test drive a Ridgeline and see if I like it or not.

Just got back from looking at a 2007 Ridgeline. It was rough...definitely used as a work truck. Someone else was already in the process of buying it but I did set in it. It's nice and typical solid Honda.....but just did not feel like a truck. I walked back to my truck and climbed it, and thought I would rather have my truck. Not sure what I am going to do. Probably need to look at another Ridgeline that is in better shape before I decide.

I could be wrong, since I know pretty much nothing about honda's, but I don't think ridgelines even have full frames? I think they are unibody trucks to give them a smoother ride. Doesn't strike me as very "truck-like." Just my personal opinion. I wouldn't knock someone for buying one though if they are ok with that.

Your right it is a unibody. It's a car/truck or a cruck or a trar....oh well it's definitely a mix. But I don't do any heavy haul'n so it probably would work for me. Also been thinking about the Sport Trac. If I am going to deal with 13mpg in a smaller truck, I might as well get a full size F150.
