1967 Ford F-100 project.

Post by BearLady »

Hey Everyone!

So I bought a 1967 Ford F-100 Monday. I was told that it runs good but when they were doing a tune up the carb caught fire. It needs the carb rebuilt, new plug wires, couple vaccum lines, a couple wires on the drivers side of the carb look melted. Other than that and a battery it should fire up.

My Dad went and looked at the truck and said the Engine was a 352 Windsor. I may have miss understood. I am questioning that. The Engine code in the Vin is a "Y".

Is there any way by looking at or on the Engine what it is?

It would have been a 352 "FE" if stock. There is a 351 "windsor" engine, that could have been transplanted in it's place over the years however. But this should help....

Post an engine picture and we can tell you right off if it's an FE or a Windsor.

I don't have an Engine picture. But I was able to ID the Engine as a 352 FE.

I could however use some help identifying the Carburetor. I need to get a Rebuild Kit for it. I looked for the metal that usually comes on a carb to ID it, but someone previously removed it. I posted a picture of the only markings on the carb. I am just not familiar with these older Trucks.

That's a 2100 autolite which is factory original to the 67 f-100. I had NAPA look up the carb kit by application only and they got me one. The part # of the kit is 2-5585. It worked great. Looking at all the damage, you might want to start with a different carb altogether.

Where would be a good place to get a new carb?

I've seen them on e-bay from a really good rebuilder for the 67 f-100 with a manual choke. They look really professionally rebuilt. They aren't cheap but the alternative is to scour salvage yard for one with a manual choke. You could find one off of a car or a different year that will have an automatic choke that might be made to work. I know here in Idaho the salvage yards don't have a lot of carburetors left on the old trucks.

if you have any mechanical aptitude whatsoever you can rebuild that 2100 yourself. they are real simple little carbs.

don't worry about getting the 'right' rebuild kit, the one that most auto parts stores have (they should have it in stock) is 14 bucks and comes with lots of 'bonus' parts that fit the various years and permutations of carbs.

you might need more parts beyond what is in the kit, however, as it looks like that weird pump dinghus on top there is cooked. I dunno what that thing is, my 2100 doesn't have it, and the parts for it might not come in the rebuild kit.
