Sounds like you found your DD if it is still there when you get there!

If you could afford 2, then I would grab the 64 as the DD and grab the 62 as the project!! :D

Thanks for all the input guys. Guy bailed on the Dart  Too much body work for his tastes. Got it up for sale on 4 different online pages and taking it to the cruise in this afternoon with a For Sale sign on it. If I can unload it for $1500 I can still get the Fairlane. Wish me luck!

Looks good. I mildly regret getting rid of the 2 door post '64 I had for a couple years but I realized it was going to cost too much money and take too much time to restore. I thought the civil defense frequency triangles on the radio were pretty indicative of the times.

Got it! Went to check out the '64 Fairlane today and it was everything he said it was. Great condition, all original, he's the 3rd owner. The guy he bought it from owned it for 40 years and was 82 years old. This came from his mother before he ever came out. She told me that when they went to get it, they left in it and stopped at a diner on the way out. She said everybody in the place asked them what they were doing with the old man's car. He'd lived in the same town his whole life and drove that car every day for the last 40+ years. Everybody knew him and knew the car. It cranked up first turn of the key without even hitting the gas pedal, opened the door and hit the key, and she purred. Autolite 2100 carb. Drove smooth and the automatic shifted through gears without a jerk or slip. He had put new tires on it a couple of years ago, replacing the original tires the PO had on it for 40 years. 24K on the odometer and from the looks of the engine, I'd figure that was 124K not 224K. Everything works except the gas gauge. No belt on the AC compressor but the evap blower and switches worked. Original floor mats, trunk mat. No rust that I could see. Driver's side rocker molding had a hand size crunch in it where he curbed it (one clip broke loose), and one headlight trim ring was broken, but that was the only defects in the chrome and it all was clean and in great condition although it could use polishing. The rolled fabric trim at the back corner of the rear passenger door had pulled out from behind the headliner a couple of inches. A few small paint defects but all in all a beautiful survivor. Engine could use a little tweaking, probably the points, but idled and ran smoothly with only a very minor stutter occasionally. Carb could probably use a little tuning and timing could use tweaking. Steering was tight and responsive. Fresh brakes and turned drums all around. Loan check came in the mail today and I gave him a $250 deposit. He's letting me having for $3K total. Making arrangements to go pick her up sometime next week. Now just gotta unload the Dart!

Mr Sargent, congratulations.
I hope you enjoy it for many years to come.
That is a VERY low price for one in that condition.

The Fairlane I had was a pleasure to drive and comfortable to ride in too..

Thanks guys! I'm planning to go get her Tues or Wed. It's an hour and half drive home so I'll find out what kind of running shape she's really in.

Picked her up yesterday and drove her the 75 miles home with only one minor incident. She ran like crap! Stopped at an Autozone to get new wiper blades, and new points/condensor just in case, and she wouldn't start. Sprayed some ether in the carb and she fired up. Got her home and started checking on why she ran so rough. Only 4 plugs were getting spark at the distributor cap! Too late to do anything with it last night so drove the Dart to work this morning. Why does she only get spark on 4 plugs at the cap? The other 4 are getting good fire. Randomly pulled wires so didn't pay any attention to which one's weren't. Looked like new points although the cap and rotor weren't new but had been replaced in the past. I'm thinking the lobes on the distributor are worn down? I'll check that this evening. A LOT of slack in the steering wheel so I'll look at that too. In the meantime, here's some new pics.

One really cool thing is she had the original owner's manual although the front cover was torn off. But check out the scribble in the bottom corner on the AC page!
