Yupper!!!

A few winters ago I replaced the cab roof on my 1970 F250 due to penetrating rust.

I cut the old skin off in one piece with a Die grinder. I then used the old skin as a template on a sheet of new metal. It was kind of hard as the template was not "flat" due to the curvature of the roof.

I then welded the new metal on..... mud-ed the seam, primed, and painted.

It ain't "purty" but it works for me as the truck is for "working" not "Show".

I had trouble keeping the new roof metal from "waving" and rippling.

Wouldn't just be cheaper and easier to just buy a new cab? There are a lot of these trucks sitting around and I would think it to be easier to just swap cabs.

Rust man...

I sold the cab off the '68 camper I parted out a couple years ago as a good rust free floor for $150 and the guy said he was going to put his good roof and rear wall on my cab because his had rust in the cowl and firewall. I sold the rusty cab off my '70 for $400 to a guy who rolled his trail truck and needed straight skins to repair it.

I bought my 68 for $500.00.
I bought my 69 F350 dump for $1200.00.

I know a lot of these trucks are rusted out, but I myself would wait for the right one to come along. For $1200.00 that cab had better be like new!
I'm a cheap ass.

Edited to add- $1200 isn't too far out of line for a good cab.

I just hope the person doing the roof replacement has skills. I can see a lot of problems arising. You know how it is, it never looks as good as OEM.
