Need Help Identifying Truck

Post by ncmikeyb »

Hey friends! I'm trying to locate my pawpaws truck or one as similar to it as possible. I'd like to know what year/model/options/trim level/color... Attached is a pic of me beside it. I do remember it being a long bed, 4x4 and manual drive. Any other help would be much appreciated!

I'll try and find more pics but this may be all I have...

Do you have a date when the pic was taken?

Looks like a 70+ grill on a earlier belt line trim-less truck. Haven't found the hub cap in the literature either.

Hubcap is a slickside/67/Bronco hubcap, same one I have on my truck.

Truck looks high, wonder if it is an F100 4x4?

It was definitely a 4x4. He took my dad and I out to the point in Buxton NC many a times. This was his fishing rig. He had a camper top on it the whole life. I need to find a better pic. I'll report back, thanks for the input!!

Well those hubcaps are only available in 15" AFAIK so that makes it an F100 4x4 if factory. I think that narrows it down a bit as they aren't common...?

Yeah the emblem on a higher res photo says 100 by the front turn signal. I don't understand those mirrors. I can't find those on any others from around that year. They look like GM style.

Here's my Questions. Why does it have the lower trim, wheel well trim and not the beltline trim or windshield trim. It has the 70 or above blinkers and grill but looks like the grill is a painted one. Did early 70's trucks have painted grills as a base option or maybe the picture is deceiving.

My grand paw wasn't too into modifying things, he was a stock guy. I'm not sure about the mystery trim and hubcaps. I feel certain this is stock, but I've been wrong before..

I had mirrors like that on my 67 when I got it. No idea if they were stock, I tossed them as they were trashed. Looked factory though. Definitely looks like an F-100 4x4.

I played with the colors a little, to make it look less "80's print." It may be a case of "blue car syndrome" but it looks like the color of the truck is similar to mine, which is saddle tan metallic. I can't say for sure though.

Based on the headlight configuration, I'd say it's a 70 - 72.

Take a look here to see if you can recall any details of the truck: http://www.fordification.com/tech/67-72ID_01.htm I remember that my dad's truck had the emergency flasher switch in the glove box, which narrowed his down for me. Don't miss the link at the bottom to the second page. :)

Here is the link for trim packages: http://www.fordification.com/tech/trim.htm Based on what we can see, it was likely a custom or ranger model.

Take a look here to see if any of the color swatches ring any bells for you:

I hope that's helpful!

Wow thanks for all the links and time to send this over! I feel like its a 71-72 Custom F100 4x4. My dad says all his friends picked on him for ordering a School Bus Yellow truck.. That might help on the color. I'm gonna find more pics soon.

10 years on the road, I suspect the grill is just oxidized. I don't think Ford would go chrome bumper with a painted grill.

The mirrors look like old '70's Dodge van mirrors. A F100 probably didn't come with passenger side mirrors so they got added. If you blow up the pic you'll notice that it's a factory two tone truck with a white top and the chrome trim between the colors behind the cab. There is also a white topper on the back (notice the inside of it from the rear window). I'm curious what the two bumps are in the shadow by the front bumper (fishing rods or brush guard)? I'm also curious why the steering linkage looks like it's in front of the axle unless it is a 4x4. It also looks like the pic was taken on the wet sand somewhere so maybe the shadows are the old bumper mounted rod holders that used to be popular.

Anyway, good luck trying to find it or one similar.

My money's on it being a 70-72 Sport Custom with that lower trim; no side trim because it's not a deluxe tutone or Ranger. Aftermarket mirrors and oxidized grill...
