Family Member Loss

Post by ToughOldFord »

My Grandfather passed away last week. He was quite a guy, a good family man that always took care of business. And an inspiration as well, the living example of what was once the American Dream.
Even in his advanced age, (he would have been 95 this June), he was still an intelligent and sturdy man, he still took care of himself and maintained his home and his property. Only just retired himself from driving a couple of years ago.
Sadly, because of distance, I never got to spend all the time I would have liked to with my Grandparents, but we did keep in touch.
Normally I do not share much of my private life on internet forums, but in this case not only did I lose my last living grandparent, but we lost another piece of history. He fought in WWII, he was a Sargent in the 242nd Field Artillery that supported Patton's 3rd army. The greatest generation is leaving us, they will not be around for much longer.

RIP Grandpa Orin Olson, you are in God's House with Grandma now.

Sorry for your loss. I have one remaining grand parent and one remaining parent. I know the pain. Glad he got to live a long, independent life!

Mr Tough Old Ford, I am sorry to hear of your loss.
God bless you and the family.
It is always sad to loose a loved one , but when you have a Grand Father as you described it is much harder to give them up.

I hope you will always remember what a good man Mr Olson was.

I am grateful for all our military , but especially to anyone that served in WWII.

Thank you for posting this.

Sorry for the loss of your grandfather. It sounds like he had a good and full life. I lost my GF many years ago but it seems like it was just recent that he passed. I guess because as a kid, he is the one i spent all my time with.

Thanks for Sharing, Its true that generation taught us a lot. I try to get the kids out and keep my family traditions going when ever possible. My grand parents and parents did the same with us. No need to let it stop now. Prayers are with you and your family. God Speed.
