Yep, them long bed step sides are pretty danged rare.. I think most that exist were probably used
by utility companies and such, but that is just a guess.
Myself, I think they are all good, but I do like the look of the short step sides. They have an old classic
look to them, as years ago, I think most all were that type.
A step side is a bit slippery on the ice and such unless you stick some weight in the bed.
My two favorite trucks were the two step side Chevy's I had. I liked the 66 cuz it had that little
dinky back window. I liked the 72, cuz it was a good looking body style, and with the buckets
and console felt sporty, even with the 250 six banger engine. Both those Chevy's had the 250 six, but
I think the one in the 66 had a tad bit more power than the one in the 72.

i'm gonna go for the underdog and say i like longbeds more.
Sure shortboxes are sporty and females are more apt to like them because they think theyre cute (like a baby or a kitten),but I need a real truck, one that has grown to its full potential and isnt cute only awesome.
Kittens and babies run in fear from my ride its too awesome for them to handle..and the old lady chases all other females away...especially the attractive ones.. :(
I need the extra leverage the long wheelbase affords to keep the mighty 302 under my hood from causing me to wheelstand at every opportunity
I need extra cargo space because just because i can
. I need a longbox!

Well, obviously long boxes are the more desired ones, that's why there is so many of them.

8 foot beds for sure are my favorite. Much easier to hoard things with fewer trips.

I love the long bed for the purpose of using the truck as a truck. That is the main reason I went for the F-350 crew cab so I could have the long bed. But also because the short box on the crew cabs just look out of proportion to me. But I do love the short beds on the standard cab for the purpose of making it a sport truck. And since I already have a long bed which I can use to haul whatever, I may get a short bed someday which I will not use as a "truck". :D

Since i have no box on my truck. Not sure if i am qualified to chime in here.
But i will anyway

Short box: play truck
Long box: everyday/work truck
9' flatbed: work truck
12' flatbed:Throw everything you can at it and it still takes more/work truck

Don't really care if i ever own a "boxed" truck again. Really like my flatbed for everything.
My 88' f-150 is a long box. It is not a work truck. Just everyday truck. Got it for free, parts and labor and it runs. I am not impressed though.

Thats my :2cents:

Old thread, I know. Just picked up a 67 lwb with flare side. It's in tough shape, but will be getting it inspectable soon. The 69 was taking too long and I needed something to drive while I get the rest of the 69 together.

:nono:  I think 302s are cute little engines. Perfect 1st engines for teaching children to drive. I would say the females that have ridden in my truck loved the glue you in the seat on acceleration. Not once have I heard "cute" used to describe it.

We had a 73 dent with a 302.. It was OK for a street truck.. I think my 300 six has more low end torque tho..
Maybe better for work.. I'd rather have the 302 for street and highway use I think..
