This thread could be renamed "Quick ticket to sleeping on the couch thread!"
I stopped keeping track for the good of both parties involved.

this should have a sister thread

"How much iron do you have in your garage...for your truck?"

i dont have much money into it but id say i have about 2200lbs of parts under the shelves and on em for it.... (whole 79 f350 suspension, 460/5spd, parts truck parts, etc)

i keep telling myself "if i just get the 460 in there with that 3.55 rear ill double my mpg and drive it more"

I let a friend haul off a load to the scrap yard for the money. I think it weighed around 1600#'s. Still have at least that much in the basement awaiting install.

How much? I dunno. I don't want to know.....because then I'd have to admit it!!!

Seriously tho--no matter how much it is right now--it's STILL LESS than a brand new truck would've cost.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

That is true. I paid $2600 for F350 flatbed dump last Sept. It left me set in late Oct. I rebuilt the starter, got a new solenoid, new coil, new dist. Cap and added electronic ignition. My buddy (whose house the truck sat for about 2 weeks) asked why I didn't buy a newer used truck.... I told him I could not afford it.... and I would have a monthly payment. The money I spent on fixing the truck was a lot cheaper than buying a newer truck.... and my 70 has a lot more class!

$8800. No more work or money going into truck other than normal maintenance over time.

I honestly don't know but I suspect it's a lot less than $4000. Probably around $3k. I do have an absolute ton of time invested in it though, probably North of 3000 hours even though most of them were dreaming about it while I should have been turning wrenches on it.

I'm into mine for maybe $2500 at this point. It was purchased on eBay back in 2005 for $1500, and all of the work since then has been done by myself. The judicious use of used parts whenever possible has kept costs down, but I figure I'll be throwing at least another grand in it's direction in the next few months to get it up to snuff.

Acquisition cost was $3500 for my project truck - the 71 flareside. Same for my daily driver, the 69 LWB std cab.
Gotta lot less in the 69 than the 71. I know on the 71, I found a nice similar truck that had been updated, had a/c, p/s, p/b, auto trans, etc. for less than I have in my 71. I know its the joy of making it your own, but sometimes I think of how nice it would be if it was ready and rolling.

I am at the point of stopping to count. I believe it's right at 30K invested. Regardless of how much I spent on it from here on out, I am going with 30K. Mostly because that's what my wife said was the line. :D
