Let's add another $3,000 to the tally for the Tremec TKO-500 I ordered on Monday... $8,500 thus far.HIO Silver wrote:The truck cost $650.... I've got about $5,500 in parts awaiting installation. Most of that is an Edelbrock E-Street EFI kit.

Re: How much money do you have in your truck?
I'll probably have near 7,500 in mine by the time the new seat is upholstered. I paid 5,900 for the truck originally and to look at how well 1,500 has improved it is amazing. It no longer leaks gas into the cab, brake fluid, rear end grease on the back brakes, or exhaust leaks through the used-to-be holes in the floor . I do most work myself or have my neighbor mechanic do the jobs I don't have the skills or tools to do. Like others have already said its well worth it with all the attention you get from driving around in a cool 60s truck. I don't care what is in the truck as I don't ever wish to sell it ( although having a second beater compact car may be in the future for gas reasons). No new car could teach me what this truck has or allowed me to meet all the cool people the truck put me in the situation to meet them.

So far close to $4,000 but its not running yet. Putting motor back in this week and then have to work on the wiring to get brake lights to be street legal. My son and daughter (14 and 11) are helping and learning here and there so its now a family hobby. The are starting to argue about who gets to drive it. I thought it was going to be mine LOL.

a little under 3000 if you include all my insurance payments and the multiple number of times i've had to get towed from breaking down and the gas and trailer i spent and used to transport the truck from arkansas and the overpriced parts i threw at it

Re: How much money do you have in your truck?
I started out with a 2,000 dollar truck...
Had about 3-4,000 to get it here...
And have about 9-10,000 to get it to where it is now.
So about 12,000 total and about a year and a half timeframe Overall id say i did good.

So far I have about $3500 into my 72 crewcab and I have not even started it yet. That includes purchase price and traveling to Phoenix to pick up a rust free replacement short box for it. I am quite sure I will have 20K into it by the time I am done and do not have a problem with that. And I will be doing most of the work myself. Once done I intend to enjoy it for many years to come!

Re: How much money do you have in your truck?
Well, I was given, ($0) my truck, with the presumption that all it needed was a reverse pivot pin, floor pans, and a front driveline. Being a naive 15 year old kid with little knowledge of trucks, or automotive in general for that matter, but a willing attitude, I took on the project. My buddy, a mechanic, offered to help, which helped the willingness for the project. $3500 in replacing rust alone, another $1000 on general parts, $1000 on brake components, $1000 on minor motor repair, and countless hours, I finally have a reasonably reliable truck, which I now use as a daily driver. I'm sure I missed some parts, but I'm currently about 7k into a 'free' truck.

Under $1,000 to make it driveable and safe. That's new tires, brakes & lines, some engine work, and some non-essential niceties. If I ever get stationed back in The States I will put down the $$ to make it nice. Cost of the truck itself was free when I picked it up.

Re: How much money do you have in your truck?
When I got my 1967 f-100 from my dad it was all rusted had leaks from the engine with basically no power in it , transmission and axle leaking, the electrical system was all but gone the steering was gone, brakes were gone also. I made complete engine over hall sealed the transmission and axle fixed the brakes all new, fixed the steering components all new, fixed all the electrical system all new and made an external paint job I started 15 years ago and I still working on it, next step will rusted pieces removal and replaced I assume $5000-$7000 by now. My wife use to give me happy birthday gifts with new pieces for my truck (she got tired and quit the gifts). It took so long cause I can only work on it Saturdays and Sundays when I’m not traveling, that means 5 to 7 weekend per year. I don’t want or looking to sell it, till now my pick up has carried four generations of my family (grand father, dad, me and my daughter), My Brothers blazer jimmy bit my dust. and I really love to ride my pick up. I also use my pick up to vanish my work stress (hit the iron).

Re: How much money do you have in your truck?
Original truck- $1800, Rolling chassis (I used for the body) with big bedroom worth of parts- $2,000, Eaton Trutrack- $450, Trans rebuild $800, Engine rebuild- $1500, Msd box, wires, coil, reman. distributor-$400, Misc. Parts (intake, carb, radiator, emblems, tail light lenses, turn signal lenses, voltage regulator, alternator, starter, new body mount bushings and front suspension bushings, getting rear leafs rearched, ect.- $1,500, Bilstein front shocks-$330, Monroe Sensatrac rear shocks-$80, Moog front springs-$100, Getting the trutrac installed and new rear wheel bearings installed-$600.
I'd Say I have about $8,000-$9,000 into my truck not counting tools and some stuff I already had lying around when I got it (Rims, tires, valve covers, headers, ect). I did the body swap myself, all new bushings, suspension, replacing the rear leafs, gas tank, you name it I've prob done it. Only things I didn't do were the engine rebuild (cheaper for me to have my engine guy do it somehow ), Trans rebuilt, Lsd installed and rear bearings (Was on vacation and the bearings went bad so had to take it to a shop... Figured while they're back there might as well have them order and install a Trutrac.
I'm in need of a paint job now and my interior could use some work so that'll prob put me back another $2,500-$3,500 and I have a 429 Thunderjet and c6 that's been begging to be put in this old truck (Depends if I want the tires to break free at 60mph or at 100 to determine the price of that haha) I'd say these trucks are well worth the investment... I bought a brand new Civic Si back in 2007 and it cost me $23,000 for the car, insurance was twice what I pay now, and you tack on the parts and wheels I threw at it and it jumps up to $30,000. Guess what... I sold it for $13,000 two and a half years later. My truck cost around $1,500 back in 1972 and 40 years later I payed $1,800 for the Swiss cheesed rusty version!

Much more in the works!

Re: How much money do you have in your truck?
Up over $12,000. and have a ways to go, probably another $12,000. I have a friend I grew up with who owns a garage. I pay for him to do some of the projects for me. I have always done everything on these old trucks myself. 65 CS, 73 F-100, 79 ect, ect. Now in the good ole latter years of life it feels great to have someone else helping out. I am blessed to have the beans to do it.
My late wife said that we worked hard all our life for what little we have now use it. So I am. You can't eat it and you can't take it with u. Might as well spend it.
